3.3.30. Heating of the fuel filter

GENERAL INFORMATION

At air fall of temperature viscosity of diesel fuel increases owing to hardening of the paraffin which is contained in it. Therefore the firms trading in oil products enter special additives which reduce its viscosity into fuel in the winter and allow to make start of the engine at lower temperatures. Nevertheless, these additives not always provide sure start of the engine therefore the diesel engines installed on the Opel Vectra cars are equipped with the device of electric heating of the fuel filter. As a result of heating hardening of paraffin in the fuel given to TNVD is excluded even at very low temperatures.

Heating joins automatically at start of the engine at a temperature of air below +6 °C.

Prevention

Owing to considerable consumption of current the device of heating of the fuel filter recommends at start of the engine at a low temperature to switch off everything consumers of the electric power.
