Check of a tension

Prevention

In workshops for check of a tension of a belt special Opel KM-128-A adaptation is used. If there is no such adaptation, precisely it is impossible to adjust and check a belt tension as the new belt has to have a big preliminary tension. The correct tension of a wedge-shaped belt considerably increases the term of its service.

In the absence of the above-stated adaptation the tension of a belt can be checked a hand thumb, having pressed it in the middle between pulleys. The belt has to cave in approximately on 5 mm. However, despite this check, at the next routine maintenance it is necessary to check a belt tension by means of adaptation as the wrong tension can lead to slipping of a belt.
