3.1.16. Camshaft

1. The camshaft can be removed, without removing a head of cylinders, only by means of the special tool (Opel P/N 603 850).
2. If you have no such tool, it is necessary to remove a head of cylinders. Surely replace old laying of a head.
3. In models 14 NV remove the fuel pump.
4. Remove the distributor of ignition or the coil.
5. In models C 16 SE unscrew three fixing bolts and remove the basic plate of the coil fixed on the end of a head of cylinders.
6. In models C 18 NZ, C 20 NE take a back epiploon of the camshaft.
7. Unscrew two fixing bolts of a persistent plate of the camshaft.
8. Remove a persistent plate.
9. Accurately take the camshaft from a head of cylinders.

1. Examine inserts of bearings in a head of cylinders on wear existence. Check that lubricant openings in a head were not littered. If inserts are worn-out, it is necessary to replace a head.
2. Examine the camshaft if bearings or cams are worn-out, it needs to be replaced together with yokes.
3. Examine a persistent plate, if necessary replace it.

1. Replace a forward epiploon of a shaft.
2. Oil bearings and epiploons.
3. Insert a shaft into a head of cylinders.
4. Establish a persistent plate and tighten bolts (a photo at the left). Check a camshaft side play, having inserted the probe between a persistent plate and a flange on the end of a shaft (a photo on the right). If the gap exceeds admissible size, replace a persistent plate.
5. In models C 18 NZ, C 20 NE establish a new back epiploon.
6. In models C 16 SE check a condition of ring consolidation on a back part of a basic plate of the coil, replace it if necessary.
7. Install the distributor or the coil.
8. In models 14 NV install the fuel pump.
9. Establish a head of cylinders.
10. If you installed the new camshaft, replace engine oil.
